Pour-Over Coffee Brewing Instructions
What You’ll Need:
- Fresh coffee beans (medium grind)
- Coffee scale (optional)
- Pour-over brewer (e.g., V60, Chemex)
- Filter (paper or metal, depending on your brewer)
- Kettle (preferably a gooseneck for control)
- Hot water (around 200°F / 93°C)
- Mug or carafe
- Stirring stick (optional)
Steps:
- Measure Your Coffee:
- Use a coffee-to-water ratio of about 1:15 to 1:17. For example, for 20g of coffee, use 300-340g of water.
- Prepare the Filter:
- Place the filter in your pour-over brewer. If using a paper filter, rinse it with hot water to eliminate any paper taste and preheat the brewer. Discard the rinse water.
- Add Coffee Grounds:
- Place the ground coffee in the filter. Level the grounds for an even extraction.
- Start Brewing:
- Begin by pouring a small amount of hot water (about twice the weight of the coffee) over the grounds to bloom. This allows the coffee to release carbon dioxide and enhances flavor. Let it sit for about 30 seconds.
- Continue Pouring:
- Slowly pour the remaining hot water in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outward. Aim for a steady flow, pouring until you reach your desired water weight. This should take about 2-3 minutes.
- Let It Drip:
- Allow the water to fully drip through the coffee grounds. Avoid stirring during this phase; just let the process happen naturally.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Once all the water has dripped through, remove the brewer and discard the grounds. Pour your coffee into your mug or carafe, and enjoy!
